Routine Distance Subjective Refraction with the Phoropter PURPOSE To determine the refractive status of the eye using the patient’s subjective responses. When the distance subjective refraction is completed, a distant point stimulus should form a point image on the retina with accommodation fully relaxed.
EQUIPMENT ·Projector,VA slide,screen ·Standard phoropter.
SET-UP ·The patient should be seated cormfortably. ·Disinfect patient contact surfaces of the phoropter. ·Set the phoropter PD to match patient’s distance PD. ·Position the phoropter in front of the patient. ·Level The phoropter. ·Project the full-screen VA chart with the 20/15 line at the bottom.
Step-by-Step Procedure for the Routine Distance Subjective Refraction with the Phoropter The pages that follow describe the step-by-step procedure for the entire routine distance refraction, which consists of several individual procedures. These individual procedures often have names and are labeled within the step-by-step procedure. The numbering of the steps is continuous for the entire routine distance refraction.Side trips are described at the end of the step-by-step procedure of the routine refraction. The Flow of Refraction chart(see Figure 3-1)shows how the individual procedures, including the side trips, are organized to make the entire distance subjective refraction. On the flowchart, the numbers in parentheses are the step numbers for the labeled portion of the step-by-step procedure from the text. |
